About us

The Sheffield String Quartet was formed in 2006 by violinist Chris Brain. Since it's inception the quartet has built a reputation of being one of north's most popular quartets for weddings and events. Highly experienced and with the highest professional standards the quartet and trio have played at many venues including Chatsworth House, Aston Hall and Cutlers Hall. They have also played at prestigious events such as Al Gore's conference "An Inconvenient Truth" in the Sheffield's Octagon Centre! As our popularity and demand for performances grew we welcomed additional players. All our members play professionally with orchestras around the country and Europe.

"Thank you for playing at our wedding. Our guests commented on how much they enjoyed listening to you. We were so happy to hear you play our favourite U2 song."
Simon & Kate, Derbyshire, 2009

"It was wonderful to walk down the isle to such beautiful music. You helped to make the ceremony a dream come true."
Helen, Nottingham, 2011

A little about our history.

The founder of the quartet, Chirs Brain first studied at Sheffield University living an active life as a musician and soking up as much of the culture as possible. Chris felt inspired by many of the performances by visiting famous quartets such as the Belcea String Quartet, Maggini String Quartet and of course Sheffield’s own Lindsay String Quartet. Read more
